What is the payment policy?
What is the $15 certificate fee?
The RMV requires $15 to process the certificate for each student that completes Driver’s Education. On the student's 11th lesson, we will remind the student to bring $15 in cash. This will allow us to instantaneoulsy input the student's certificate (as opposed to send the check to the RMV and waiting a week. If a student chooses to pay by check, it will take 5-7 business days before the certificate will be added to the students profile. If paying by check, it can be made out to “MA DOT”. After the 5-7 days, the student can check if their certificate is ready on their online portal. Once the certificate is issued, a road rest may be scheduled. (Note: If you are taking the road test with DEA, we will schedule this road test for you.) The certificate is only displayed online through the RMV website. It will NOT sent by mail.

Where do students get picked up for their lessons?
Students will be picked up mostly from home or from school. Students can also be picked up from different locations as long as Drivers Edge Academy has approved the location before booking a driving hour. We also pick up students from Holbrook HS, Braintree HS, Randolph HS, Avon HS and Brockton HS. Email us to see if we can help you.
What if I can’t make a driving hour?
We ask that if you cannot make a scheduled appointment, you cancel 24 hours before your start time. If you do not show up for an hour, cancel inside of the 24 hour grace period or do not have your permit with you at the time of pick up we will charge you $40 for the missed appointment. Exceptions may be made in cases of emergencies.
How many lessons can I book in a week?
Students may only book 1 lesson a week. That can be either a 1 or 2 hour driving lesson. This ensures that all students are able to book lessons and not be locked out by other students overbooking the schedule.
Do you offer private lessons?
Yes we offer private lessons for anyone who would like to brush up their skills before the road test, or just tackle a specific driving skill. Students that are not ready for the road test may seek additional hours. We off a discounted rate to our students who wish to do this. (See location pricing pages for more info).
What is required to finish Drivers Ed?
30 hours of in class time, 12 hours of driving, 6 hours of observing, 40 hours driving with a parent/guardian and a two hour parent/guardian class must be attended in order to complete Drivers Ed. All fees must be paid as well in order to be completed, including the $15 fee paid to MA DOT for the students Drivers Ed certificate.
What if I miss a class?
Classes are numbered 1-15, so if a student misses one they can make it up later but must be the same class they missed. Students can contact the office to determine when exactly the class they missed will be offered again.
What is an observing hour?
Observing hours are required by the RMV, they are for the students to observe other drivers and see instruction from a different perspective, so they may gain more information that they might miss while driving.
When are parent classes?
Parent classes are scheduled once every 4-6 weeks. Classes will be held either weekday or weekend nights. Space will be limited so we ask you sign up ahead of time and only one parent/guardian needs to attend.
When and how will I know if a driving hour or class session is cancelled?
Classroom and driving hours may be cancelled due to inclement weather. We will do our best to notify the student by phone and/or email if a class or driving hour is cancelled as early as possible. If a student books a Drive With a Friend hour, a notification will only be sent to the student that booked the lesson. It is their job to then notify their friend. Road hours may be done if snowing or raining, but this will be determined on a case by case basis.
How does road test scheduling work?
Students may schedule the road test on their own. Students also have the option of using DEA as a sponsor (see pricing page) for their road test. If students choose this option, we will schedule the road test for the student. (Note: The RMV is backed up for road tests and all driving schools are at the mercy of the RMV when it comes to scheduling the test.) Students may also sign up for the alternate test site in which the RMV will send a test administrator to test all students at a particular location and time determined by the RMV. (10 students needed for alternative site test) Saturday tests will only be available if we have the 10 students required to test.
